Operator Backhaul

SatMENA offers both redundant and active backhauling solutions to telecom operators to enhance the service quality and reach unserved and underserved markets, providing seamless and continuous connectivity in addition to preserving the profit margins and maintain the ARPU (average revenue per user) figures. SatMENA can address any backhaul use case via SES’s only industry multi-orbit satellite fleet, local expertise in lifecycle services to tackle complex technical challenges, and an expansive, next-generation network of ground systems and remote site solutions. Our solution permits network bandwidth load balancing and application processing to prioritize services such as voice and other basic applications, and our end-to-end managed services offload the financial and operational risk of deploying and managing the backhaul network and its required infrastructure.

Active telecom operators managed backhaul is applicable to remote fixed central offices and LTE sites, since most under-served areas face challenges related to geography, infrastructure reachability and low population density, making it either physically and/or economically unfeasible to provide communication services using fiber and microwave. Our managed mobile backhaul solutions combine dynamically allocated satellite capacity with optimized network infrastructure. Provided under a single robust service level agreement – SLA, our managed services reduce deployment risk and accelerate revenues for communication networks, 2G, 3G, 4G/LTE, and 5G services in previously unreachable or under-served areas, plus completely support the fulfilment of universal service obligations.

A fully managed service makes the backhaul link a seamless extension of your network. It easily and quickly integrates into the network via standards-based interconnection, all managed by our VSAT and data networking technology experts. Underpinned by a range of commercial pricing models that further mitigate business risk, our backhaul solutions make the economics of network expansion more attractive. This is particularly the case in underserved areas, where low population density and low ARPU pose a challenge to near-term profitability. Application acceleration is critical when high bandwidth such as LTE is needed. Inherent satellite delays are overcome by using innovative acceleration technology to mitigate the latency effects. Such technology enables real LTE speed through acceleration of traffic inside the LTE GTP tunnel. This method is utilized in LTE deployments to attain ameliorated performance.
Satellite-to-LTE Stand-Alone Stations
Given the large spectrum of the solution’s services, telecom operators can expand the LTE’s network reach through capitalizing on our wireless stand-alone Satellite-to-LTE stations in remote and underserved areas. Our latest technology can be leveraged in remote areas and by mobile operators to deliver high quality internet at minimal installations fees and negligible operations costs, given the solar technology built-in within the station to feed the power needs pertaining to remote and infrastructure-lacking areas and markets.
MNOs and VNOs Models
With the emergence of mobile network operators (MNO) and virtual network operators (VNO), our aim is to bridge the gap present in initial setup costs and provide a seamless integration with current infrastructure through providing a holistic and end-to-end managed solution for operators along with a complete white-labeled BSS/OSS solution for advanced branding efforts and product differentiation capabilities.
Scalable Business Models
Operators have two routes to choose from. The first being a reseller model whereby operators gain a discounted price and add the relevant margins accordingly based on the current competitive landscape. Alternatively, bulk capacity can be leased whereby the operators can design their own services to better cope with the locality of the market where they operate, offering unique and differentiated services allowing for superior market penetration and customer acquisition.
Partnerships to Expand Expertise
Through partnership with SatADSL, a leader in platform services through the patented satellite platform as a service (PaaS) C-SDP, and capitalizing the multi-tenant platform, VNOs can offer unique packages and services based on unlimited dedicated access, unlimited shared access, volume vouchers, duration vouchers, fair- usage-policy (FUP) based services, and fair-access-policy (FAP) based services.
